I’m Suzanne, a reading interventionist and educator who believes that every student deserves the opportunity to become a confident, capable reader and writer. Consider the power of reading well, with understanding, in today’s age where 60% of students are graduating high school far below a functional reading level. The skill of reading with understanding opens so many academic and professional doors for future opportunities unavailable to those who develop it.
I created Living Stones Literacy to provide families with personalized, evidence-informed literacy support that meets students where they are. My goal is to help parents understand what their children need and give students the instruction, practice, and encouragement they need to grow.
My Approach
Learning to read and write takes time, consistency, and the right instruction. When a student struggles, I believe the answer is not simply to ask them to work harder, but to understand what is making the work difficult.
I use assessment to identify a student’s strengths and areas of need, then build instruction around the skills that will help them make meaningful progress. My approach is grounded in the Science of Reading and focuses on developing the foundational skills that support successful reading and writing.
I also believe that learning should be encouraging. Students need to know that difficulty does not mean they are incapable. With appropriate support, they can develop the skills and confidence to become more independent learners.
My Experience
I hold a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in the state of California. I am credentialed to tutor in Reading and Writing in any state across America, and do so virtually. I have experience working with students across a variety of educational settings, including public schools, virtual classrooms, and even private homeschooling.
These diverse experiences have shaped the way I work with families. I understand that every student learns differently, and I value the opportunity to provide support that is both individualized and practical for the home environment.
